The Military Does Mortuary Drills

Joint Mortuary Affairs Exercise 2017  source: U.S. Army Reserve

"Exercise Folded Flag tests USAF mortuary affairs' capabilities"

"DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- The Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations, in conjunction with Team Dover active duty and Reserve units, and off-base Army, Marine and Navy units, conducted Folded Flag 2017, a mass fatality exercise, April 7 to 13, 2017, here. AFMAO is the only Department of Defense mortuary in the continental U.S. Its unique and solemn mission is to fulfill the nation’s sacred commitment of ensuring dignity, honor and respect to the fallen and care, service and support to their families. The purpose of Folded Flag 2017 was to stress AFMAO’s capabilities by receiving a high number of remains over several days. “We haven’t had a mass fatality dignified transfer, luckily, in a long time,” said Col. Dawn Lancaster, AFMAO commander. “Unfortunately in our business, a mass fatality incident isn’t an ‘if,’ but a ‘when. That’s just the reality for us in the military.” On any given day, there could be an attack on a convoy in Afghanistan, a bombing at a U.S. military base overseas, or a plane crash anywhere around the world. These incidents can result with one or two dozen casualties. “We have to be able to support that and prove that we can care and provide that dignity, honor and respect, just like we receive all the ones and twos all the time, for the 20, the 30, the 40, or the 50, at the same time.”

"Capt. Brian Scallion, AFMAO dignified transfer officer in charge, was in a group who planned and organized this year’s exercise.  “The main goal was to exercise receiving a large amount of remains and stressing port mortuary on receiving those remains and then having another incident in the middle of preparing those, with more inbounds,” said Scallion. “It’s to see where our breaking point is. We have to determine at which point we need to reach outside AFMAO for assistance, whether it’s our Naval morticians, who are nearby, or working some other avenues to get support to help prepare all the remains to go back to their final destination.” "

Graves Registration Services

"Mortuary Affairs is a service within the United States Army Quartermaster Corps tasked with the retrieval, identification, transportation, and burial of deceased American and American-allied military personnel. Until 1991, it was known as the Graves Registration Service (GRS or GRREG). The Graves Registration Service was created several months after the United States entered World War I. The current Army Military Occupational Specialty for the career field is 92A (a general code for officers across the Quartermaster Corps) and 92M for enlisted personnel."

"Disaster drills are no match for chaos of reality"

Published September 12, 2001 - Post 9/11

"Federal emergency plans cover everything from medical care to patient evacuation to mortuary care to treatment of injured animals."

"The people who work at the New York State Emergency Center in Albany report to work each day--underground, in a bunker surrounded on all sides by four feet of reinforced concrete--in preparation for a medical disaster. On Tuesday, the disaster occurred. "Right now we're trying to locate any survivors, possibly trapped in the collapses," said Hans Hallman, a spokesman for the center, adding that all of its forces in New York City had been deployed--emergency medical aid, transportation personnel, the National Guard, police, firefighters, "everyone."

The nation's health-care system prepares for such disasters with exercises that pull together federal health-care officials, their state and local counterparts, and medical providers throughout the country. Arlington County, Va., prepares for catastrophes at the Pentagon. Federal emergency plans cover everything from medical care to patient evacuation to mortuary care to treatment of injured animals. But in the chaotic aftermath of Tuesday's terrorist attacks, such carefully laid plans collided with the complications of reality."

A Funeral Director's Eternal Debt To The Military For All The Veterans

"At Horan & McConaty, we are eternally indebted to our military veterans who courageously serve our nation and protect our freedom. We honor our veterans by assisting their families with obtaining all Veteran benefits, Social Security benefits and life insurance benefits."

John Horan President/CEO

"My family's association with funeral service dates back to 1890, when my great-great grandparents moved to Denver from Santa Fe and opened a funeral home at the northwest corner of 15th and Platte Streets in lower downtown. Later, my great-grandfather worked diligently to build on his parents' legacy and also founded National Selected Morticians, now known as Selected Independent Funeral Homes.

In 1919, James “Gentleman Jim” McConaty established McConaty's Boulevard Mortuary at Speer and Federal Boulevards. In the 1940's, James "Jim" McConaty, Jr. joined the firm, and his brother Joseph "Joe" McConaty later joined the firm in the 1950’s. In 1956, the McConaty brothers established a second location on South Colorado Boulevard. Jim McConaty died in 1983 and his brother Joe died in 2001. Before he died, Joe McConaty sold his company to me in 1986. I was able to purchase the company thanks in part to my mom and dad, who loaned me the funds to cover most of the down payment and personally signed the notes, potentially risking their home and assets. I am eternally grateful to them for their generosity.

Since then, we have constructed five new facilities to better serve families throughout the metro area and have grown to be Colorado’s Most Preferred Family-Owned Funeral Homes and Crematories. My mother, Valerie VanDerbur Horan, grew up in East Denver and attended East High School and the University of Colorado. “Val,” as most call her, first began her funeral service career when she was a teenager, starting off as a receptionist who handled various jobs at the funeral homes. Val still assists with funeral and memorial services upon request today. My father, Jack T. Horan, died in 2010.

As part of our commitment to remain independent, Chief Operating Officer, Daren B. Forbes and Vice-President Jennifer McBride are acquiring minority interests in Horan & McConaty. At Horan & McConaty, we value our reputation and go the extra mile to help families celebrate a life lived well. We serve more Denver families than any other family-owned provider in the metro area. My staff and I are dedicated to pursuing the highest levels of service, and we greatly appreciate the trust the community has placed in us."

Social Shepherds & Crowd Control

"Our invisible governors are, in many cases, unaware of the identity of their fellow members in the inner cabinet. They govern us by their qualities of natural leadership, their ability to supply needed ideas and by their key position in the social structure. Whatever attitude one chooses to take toward this condition, it remains a fact that in almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons—a trifling fraction of our hundred and twenty million—who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind, who harness old social forces and contrive new ways to bind and guide the world."

Finally Some Glassy Eyes & Yet Still No Tears

Seems like the typical odd behavior of the governmentally employed crisis actor. At the very least this woman appears to have been coached by the News production team. Is this how real people would really act? Are people really so shallow as to embrace a chance at 15 minutes of televised fame? I know if I lost my spouse, the last thing I would do is a series of interviews. How many interviews do you think Mrs. Melton did instead of going home to be with her family and grieve in private like a normal person would?

Mrs. Melton seems to have had plenty of time for interviews and all that goes along with such televised appearances, when did she have time to plan her husband's funeral? I guess we are to assume either she is a great at multitasking or someone else took care of that for her. One would think she would want to be back home surrounded by her friends and family like most people would. Instead she would prefer to spend her time going from News interview to interview, seemingly cashing in on her 15 minutes of fame. I think the idea that this is how someone would normally act and behave after such a tragedy to be more disturbing than the idea that she is faking it and is just a governmentally employed propaganda actress.

Heather Melton On NBC Morning News

Glassy eyes look almost tear filled. Perhaps one day a professional will show us how it's done.

Even if we were to witness what we considered to be actual tears and perhaps drop of snot or two, we would still be quite foolish to believe what we were seeing on a screen in TV News media, edited format. Even in person a good actress can convince us we are witnessing a real emotional response. Human beings are "wired" to respond emotionally to each other's behavior and this Natural instinct for empathy has long been used against us.

Emotional interviews are designed to get us to act in kind and to leave critical thought behind.

"Mourners line up for Sonny Melton"

Published 5:34 p.m. CT Oct. 9, 2017 | Updated 7:54 p.m. CT Oct. 9, 2017

"BIG SANDY – It didn’t take long for the crowd to grow Monday for the visitation for Sonny Melton at Big Sandy High School. The gym was already set up for Tuesday’s funeral with rows of metal folding chairs. Those rows of chairs helped bring the line fully into the building as people weaved their way among the rows. “I’m not sure what to say when we get up there,” Henry County High School assistant football coach Tony Bond said. “There’s nothing you can say; it’s a horrible situation.” Melton was one of the 59 people killed Oct. 1 in the Las Vegas shooting. He was shot in the back while getting his wife, Heather, to safety."

Heather Melton On NBC Nightly News

I'd wager Heather has lost track of all the interviews she has done. How many local and national level interviews do you suppose she has done? Do you think the number is triple digits? What about radio and print interviews as well, and perhaps online ones too? This woman is in the midst of a real public relations blitz!

From Columbine to Sandyhook to Paris and even the recent Vegas event, mass shootings make for big News!

"BIG SANDY – Not every mailbox and road sign on the highway from Camden to Big Sandy has a green bow or balloon connected to it, but most of them do. That’s what the people of the town of Big Sandy did on Saturday to make the place look nice for a hero’s welcome. The occasion was a somber one as the hero, Sonny Melton, died in the gunfire during the Las Vegas shooting last weekend. He was hit in the back by a bullet while shielding his wife, Heather, as they sought cover.

Melton’s body was flown into Tennessee on Saturday afternoon. Crowds gathered to greet the police escort for the hearse. It is scheduled to travel through the Benton County towns of Camden and Big Sandy and into Henry County and the town of Paris before arriving at Ridgeway Funeral Home. Crowds began assembling about 5:30 p.m. with lawn chairs and signs in the Big Sandy High School parking lot entering town from the south and the congregation grew throughout the length of the town, which is a couple miles. Visitation for Melton will be Monday from 2-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., when his funeral is set to begin."

"Visitation and funeral will be in the gym at Big Sandy High School."

The Eric Church Connection:

No Tragedy Is Complete Without Fast Turn Around Pop Concert To Sooth The Soul & What Seems To Be Crass Product Placement

Skull and bondsmen-like, freemasonry experts used to be responsible for constructing churches; Eric means eternal ruler and church means circle; just a bit of free association that came to mind.

The Concert Held The Very Next Day

"Shaken and solemn, some of county music's biggest stars took the stage at Ascend Amphitheater to sing, pray and remember."

"They're like family," Keith Urban said of the victims. "That's the one thing about country music that's always been at the center of it. It's about community."

"Las Vegas mass shooting victims remembered in vigil at Ascend Amphitheater"

By Jessica Bliss and Adam Tamburin, The Tennessean

"Candace Beine was in town from Wisconsin to see Eric Church at the Grand Ole Opry. When she heard of a chance to celebrate fellow country fans who were killed and wounded in Las Vegas, she decided to come. Beine acknowledged the shooting was a horrific reminder of the fact that safety can never be guaranteed. “It’s scary to be at a festival where you’re searched, you’re wanded, everyone inside is safe,” and yet violence can still strike, she said. “I don’t know you control a situation like that.” But she said her love for the music — and the people who sing it — will keep her coming to concerts and festivals.“You’re at risk no matter what you do,” she said. “There so much in this world that is scary. I don’t want to be scared.”"

Who is Dr. Heather Melton? This is from December 2016.

Dr. Heather Melton-Orthopedic Surgeon  source: henrycomedcenter   Published on Dec 16, 2016

If such tragedy happened to you, would you travel from interview to interview like a Hollywood celebrity selling something?

Dr. Heather Melton, mother of three. If something like this happened to me, I know I would want to be home with my children, friends and family, and not doing a series of public relations interviews; having to sit through hair and makeup and all the rest over and over again, but I guess I am a weirdo.

Why can't we easily find photographs of 29 year old Sonny Melton dressed up as an emergency room nurse?

Why does he appear to be about the same age in all the photos?  I would think that we should have at least a handful of photographs of Sonny Melton dressed up as an emergency room nurse, one would think the family would have supplied such photography to the News media. One would think the media would ask for photographic representation of this guy as a male nurse, after all "a picture is worth a thousand words", or so they say. The fact that the wife is supposed to be the doctor and the husband the nurse is a role reversal that would seem to be right up the News media meme filled alley.

No Evidence He Was A Nurse.jpg

How can the husband, an ER nurse, work with his wife, an orthopedic surgeon, are these not two different types of medical roles?

Do orthopedic surgeons work the emergency room? If we go by Heather's own account she would be a terrible ER doctor. She did not appear to know how to treat gunshot wounds, which would make sense considering her apparent background.

"Sonny was an emergency room nurse who often worked with his wife and once told his father he chose his profession to help save lives."

Want to learn to shoot guns?

James Warren Melton is your man.

"TENNESSEE HANDGUN CARRY PERMIT CLASS $75 - In this class, firearms safety, shooting fundamentals and the legal principals of self defense are presented and explained. An elementary shooting test as well as a written final test must be passed before successful completion and the issuance of a course certificate. This class must be taken before applying for a handgun carry permit. Each student must have a safe and reliable handgun, 50 rounds of ammunition and eye and ear protection. A secure holster is highly recommended.

BASIC ARMED DEFENSE CLASS $75 (4 HOUR CLASS)- Safety considerations are thoroughly discussed and then the student moves quickly to the range . An introduction is made to the importance of strategic defensive planning and proper equipment selection. The range work starts with basic shooting drills and progresses through more advanced techniques on single and multiple threat targets. Each student will need a reliable handgun, strong side holster, at least one extra magazine or speedloader and belt pouch, small flashlight and at least 300 rounds of ammunition

ADVANCED ARMED DEFENSE $75 (4 HOUR CLASS) - This is considered by most students to be our most intense and interesting class. Psycho-motor body reactions to stress are studied and applied to "real life" situations with the defensive Handgun. The range time will focus on speed and accuracy as well as good decision making under stress. Ground fighting is also introduced. The same equipment is needed as in the Basic class.

DEFENSIVE RIFLE CLASS $75 (4 HOUR CLASS) - The modern rifle is considered to be the best all around defensive weapon available. This class introduces the student to the tactics and skills needed to master this type of serious defensive tool. A reliable rifle, 2 or 3 extra magazines, 300 rounds of ammo, and the same equipment needed for the Basic Handgun Class are required.

DEFENSIVE SHOTGUN CLASS $75 (4 HOUR CLASS) - The role of the shotgun in defensive situations is not well understood by the average defensive shooter. The awesome power and extreme effectiveness of the shotgun should not be underestimated. The range time will help the student develop the skill to use the shotgun safely and efficiently in a personal protection mode. A reliable shotgun with attached sling is needed by each student along with 50 birdshot shells, 5 buckshot shells and 5 slugs. No special type of shotgun is needed."

Training Basics With The Next Generation Glock Pistol

James Warren Melton Says:

"Well, Tony and I have just returned home from a flight up north with our newly updated Glock Armorers certificates in hand. We were gone three days and what busy days they were! We hob-knobbed with police trainers, competitive shooters and industry insiders as we practiced troubleshooting pistol malfunctions, replacing broken parts and installing upgrades to what Tony affectionately calls " the epitome of handgun defense", that is a Glock pistol. This year, we were happy to find the Glock Manager of Training, Mr. Scotty Banks leading his crew during the class sessions. Mr. Banks has many years experience as the "go to guy" in any discussion of Glock repair and is just one heck of a nice guy. We also were the first armorer class to discuss the new Generation 5 Glock pistols. The new Gen 5 handguns were also on display at the giant NRA Carry-Guard Expo happening upstairs in the same building. Tony and I plan on putting this training to good use as we continue to provide the best classes possible here at U.S. Security. Our commitment to keeping up with new products, services and trends provides a great basis to keep us proficient with the ability to assist our clients with the outstanding service we have come to be known for.  If we can be of help, or to check about a class, just give Tony or me a call."

"We who are Glock fans have been long awaiting the release for any info on the new Gen 5 pistols, and now we finally have it. There have been some changes and upgrades. It seems they listened to not only the FBI requirements but also to us, their customers. We now have this info to look at and read about and see a possible release date of the pistol. I for one will be in line to buy the G17 model (my favorite), and I hope it feels better then the Gen 4. I have stayed away from the G4 models because I personally did not like them.

The Gen 3 models have long been my favorite. Glock had this to say about the new Glock Gen 5 pistols:

“The G17 Gen5 and G19 Gen5 pistols we are introducing next week were inspired by the GLOCK M pistols used by the FBI and include many features the GLOCK community has been asking for.  There are over 20 design changes which differentiate our Gen5 pistols from their Gen4 predecessors, including a flared mag-well, a new DLC finish, the GLOCK Marksman Barrel, ambidextrous slide stop levers, and a grip which has no finger grooves. GLOCK should be announcing the launch of their G17 Gen5 and G19 Gen5 pistols on Wednesday, August 30th.”

Gee, Glock Sure Makes A Great Mass Shooting Weapon, Or So They Say...

Glock Branded Mass Shootings Are News

"The earliest known case of a Glock being used in a mass shooting came in 1991, when unemployed merchant mariner George Jo Hennarddrove his pick-up truck through the plate-glass window of Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen, Texas. Hennard exited his vehicle and methodically fired two pistols, including a Glock 17, at restaurant patrons, killing 24 and injuring 27."

"A list of mass shootings between April 1999 and January 2013 prepared for lawmakers in Connecticut showed that rifles were used in 10 incidents and shotguns in 10 others, while handguns were used in 42. Glock brand pistols turned up in nine of those cases. Another compendium of mass shootings since 2009 by the New York Times showed that handguns were used in 13 incidents, compared to five in which a rifle was the primary weapon. Glocks were recovered from six of the perpetrators. Mateen, who worked nine years for the security firm G4S, used a Glock 17, a model that is commonly issued to military personnel, police officers, and private security guards, said David VanDriel, co-founder of Miami-based Direct Action 1ndustries, a company that provides defense training to law enforcement officers and civilians. He said the weapons are marketed for their durability, safety features, and efficiency. "The Glock 17 is extremely reliable," VanDriel said. "It doesn't require a whole lot of maintenance time." Suleiman Yousef, a bodyguard, firearms instructor, and bail bondsman from Miami, told VICE News that the Glock 17 is one of the Austrian gunmaker's best-selling semi-automatic pistols. It's affordable — usually selling for about $500 — and it uses 9mm bullets, a type of ammunition that is produced in high volume. "You can go to any country in the world and find Glocks and Glock parts," Yousef said. "I'm going to Mexico and Brazil in July for work. When I get to both places, I'll have a Glock waiting for me."

Originally designed for the Austrian army following World War II by company founder Gaston Glock, the Glock 17 entered American police service in the mid-1980s following a series of incidents that left cops feeling outgunned by criminals, including a 1986 FBI shootout with heavily armed bank robbers in Miami, Florida, that left two agents dead. Today, Glock makes "pistols available for every man and woman, for every application and every hand size," according to a company promo video.

Hennard exited his vehicle and methodically fired two pistols, including a Glock 17, at restaurant patrons, killing 24 and injuring 27. In the last nine years, Glocks have figured prominently in at least five mass shootings. In 2007, Seung-Hui Cho, a senior at Virginia Tech University, used a Glock 19 and Walther P22 to kill 32 people and wound 17 others in two separate attacks on campus. The Glock 19 is a smaller pistol that is easier to conceal. Three years later, Jared Lee Loughner used a Glock 19 to shoot 20 people in Arizona, gravely wounding US Representative Gabrielle Giffords and killing six others, including a nine-year-old girl. In 2013, Pedro Vargas went on a shooting rampage inside his apartment complex in Hialeah, Florida. With his Glock 17, Vargas murdered six people and held two neighbors hostage during an eight-hour stand-off until a SWAT team stormed the building and killed him. On June 17, 2015, Dylann Roof killed nine people with a .45-caliber Glock pistol at a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina. Two months later, Vester Lee Flanagan II shot and killed a Roanoke, Virginia, television reporter and a cameraman with a Glock 19 during a live news broadcast.

Based on recent history, it doesn't make a difference if a mass shooter is using a rifle or handgun, VanDriel said. "You can cause severe damage with any kind of gun," he said. "I would imagine [Mateen] knew how to operate the weapons he was carrying."

"One weapon always gets overlooked in US mass shootings — and it's not an assault rifle"

"But Mateen was also carrying a Glock, a brand of firearm that has been used nearly as often as assault rifles to commit mass murder. A list of mass shootings from April 1999 to January 2013 prepared for lawmakers in Connecticut showed that rifles were used in 10 incidents and shotguns in 10 others, while handguns were used in 42. Never Forget: Training Basics With The Next Generation Glock Pistol

No Need To Use Real People, But You Can

If you do not need live action, dinner theater style realism, you can cast a real person to act as a corpse for your propaganda  film or video production, old school style.

No crisis acting part is too small, after all.

Warning!

If you are trying to fool a room full of people, this might not be the option for you.

Interesting Factoid #2: Origins of The Mandalay Bay

In 1996 The Hacienda Hotel is carefully rigged to implode into its own footprint apparently by 'the Archons'.

"In 1995, the Hacienda was purchased by Circus Circus Enterprises from Lowden's Archon Corporation. By this time, it was dwarfed by the many new megaresorts that were being built, in particular the Luxor which had just been recently completed. On December 10, 1996, the Hacienda was closed to the public after 40 years, and imploded later that month. This implosion was broadcast on the Fox Network as a part of their New Year's Eve 1996 telecast. Despite the implosion, parts of the old resort still stood, due to the building not falling into its footprint, but toppling into its parking lot. The next day a wrecking crew was brought in to bring down the remaining parts."

"In March 1999, it was replaced by the Mandalay Bay."
