A Sunday Soap Opera Sermon:
Mythical tales of the royally concocted & contrived past offered to tickle the imagination.
I recommend watching this video from the beginning.
Royalty was the original iconic celebrity idol. Oil paintings, word of mouth and printed news journals would spread royal reputations around empire. The family histories of the royalty of the world become our collective history. Yet the claims of history are unverifiable and would seem to be made of mythology more so than actual historical fact. The Holy Roman Emperor, for example, is presented as a mythical hard working Solomon figure. In the same manner we are supposed to truly believe and have faith that today's leaders of nations and states are hard at work everyday, the subjects of the royalty were fed the same stream of propaganda about their self proclaimed leadership.
The officially widely distributed mainstream news media was always a mouthpiece of governmental power. Public relations, marketing, or propaganda, label it as you will, words may change but the idea is the same. The mass public is managed by the use of cleverly crafted celebrity shepherds of one kind or another. People respond to and emulate the behavior of people they think they know. Today the modern medium amplifies the power of the charismatic persona to levels previously unimagined. Today royalty is still treated in exactly the same manner as the British (and American) tabloid press demonstrates.
